Still need a few folks at the races as lap scorers, aid handlers, and such, or come by for a few hours and apprentice with experienced racewalk judges. Preferably each person volunteers for a 4.5-hour shift 6:30am - 11:00am or 10:30am - 3:00pm, or pick your own hours. Volunteers join the athletes for barbeque lunch starting at 11:00am. Volunteers are also invited to the Friday evening banquet - place your menu request (listed on registration form below) early or take pot luck. Drop me a line!

7:00am: 50km racewalk 8:00am: 5km racewalk 9:00am: 20km racewalk

Course: 1182-meter flat asphalt loop; one 90-degree turn, all others gradual. USATF Certificates #TX12222ETM (50km); TX12220ETM (20km); TX12217ETM (5km). See maps at http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/search . In case of high water or projected heavy rains, all events will be relocated to another site and starting times will be postponed one hour.

Registration: Mail paper entries to Juanita Rogillio, 4946 Wigton, Houston, TX 77096. byron-juanita@att.net cell 713-302-4778. Fees: 50km advance entry $15, race day $20; 5km/20km advance entry $5, race day $10.

Schedule: Jan. 10 at host hotel: 4:00-10:00pm, packet pickup and registration. 5:00-6:00pm, free racewalk judging clinic by IAAF Level 2 judge Dan Pierce. 6:00-6:30, judges meeting open to all. 7:00-9:00pm, banquet, free to entrants, officials and volunteers, and invited guests. Choice of entrees: roast prime rib, chicken Palermo, and eggplant Parmigian.

Jan. 11 at race site: 7:00am, 50km racewalk. 8:00am, 5km racewalk. 9:00am, 20km racewalk. 11:15 – 3:30, free barbeque lunch. 1:00pm, awards at Pavilion 7. 1:00pm, evaluation of athlete progress.* 2:00pm, evaluation of athlete progress.* 3:00pm, end of allowed race period.* *50km race will be open for 8 hours IF at least one athlete on the course at 6 and 7 hours has made progress in the preceding two hours that projects to a sub-8:00 finish time.

Accommodations: Negotiating with Omni Houston Hotel Westside, 13210 Katy Fwy., Houston 77079 281-558-8338, 2 miles from race site. All 50 km competitors with credentials indicating a likely sub-8 hour finish shall have two nights’ free stay. Special rate for others and extended stay – mention USA Track and Field, John Evans 50, or Race Walking. Recommended low price option, 20 miles west, is Rooms 4 Rent, 207 N. Facilities: Portacan adjacent to course for in-race use only; others use restroom building. Meet management provides water, ice, Gatorade, fruit, snacks, and 11:15am barbeque lunch. Separate tables (see map) for personal aid or personal support crew assistance. Second water/Gatorade station on course at finish area. Do not accept sustenance at unofficial stations!

Awards:
50km:
• Trophies to top six male and top six female finishers (unique plaque for 1st). • Prize money: Top three US citizens of each gender receive $200, $100, $50; foreigners in the top three receive a matching amount. • Regional patch (one) and medals (three) to Southwest residents in overall men’s and women’s category. • Gulf Association patch and medals in masters and open categories to southeast Texas residents. • Clubs with more than two eligible members in the 50km championships must declare team makeup before the start of the 50km race.

5km, 20km: No awards

Drug testing: Athletes who participate in this competition may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USATF and IAAF rules, in accordance with USOC, USADA, or IAAF procedures. Athletes found, after a disciplinary hearing, to be positive for prohibited substances, as defined by the WADA Code and/or IAAF, or who refuse to be tested, will be disqualified from this event and may lose eligibility for future competitions. Any prize money payable to an athlete who has tested positive shall be withheld until the final disposition of all disciplinary proceedings. BEWARE: Some prescriptions, over the counter medications, and nutritional supplements may contain prohibited substances.
